For many families, bath time can go one of two ways: a bubbly, giggle-filled splash fest… or a slippery showdown complete with tears, toys everywhere, and a toddler who suddenly hates water. Sound familiar? You’re not alone! Bath time is an important part of your kiddo’s daily routine; it supports hygiene, sensory development, and comfort with water, but that doesn’t mean it always comes easily.

At Goldfish Swim School, we believe water should be a source of confidence and fun both in the pool and in the tub. That’s why we turned to our trusted brand partner and board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Molly O’Shea, for expert-approved bath time hacks that help transform this nightly routine into something your little one (and you) can actually look forward to. Her tips are designed to spark imagination, support routines, and keep safety front and center, so parents can relax while kids make waves.

Ready to turn bath time battles into bath time bliss?! Let’s dive into Dr. Molly’s favorite ways to make a splash at home!

Ice, Ice… Toys!

Freeze smaller bath toys in colored ice cubes and let your child “fish” for them using a strainer. It’s a cool sensory experience and a great way to practice fine motor skills while they wait for the ice to melt.

Sponge-tastic Shapes

Pick up colorful sponges from the dollar store and cut them into fun shapes, stars, fish, hearts, or letters. Instant bath toys that are budget-friendly and perfect for imaginative play!

Glow for the Wow

Turn bath time into a cosmic adventure by dimming the lights and adding glow sticks. Suddenly, the tub is outer space, and your little astronaut is ready for launch!

Practice those Skills!

Bath time is a perfect opportunity for practicing swim skills and getting little ones comfortable in the water. Try starting small by pouring a little water over their head as you wash their hair. You’d be surprised how big of a difference this can make! Once they get a little more brave, they can practice putting their face in the water, blowing bubbles, and even making swim stroke arm motions!

Never Leave the Tub

Dr. Molly’s top tip: keep a portable bath basket stocked with essentials like diapers, towels, baby shampoo, soap, washcloths, and even bandages (just in case!). Having everything within arm’s reach means you never have to step away from the tub.

Music Makes Magic

Consider a voice-activated music device in the bathroom so you can cue up a bath time playlist hands-free. Routines help kids feel secure, and music can turn fussiness into smiles.

Stick with a Non-Slip Mat

A fun non-slip mat on the tub floor adds traction and confidence for wiggly bathers. Look for playful designs kids will enjoy. Just make sure it’s secure and easy to clean!

Bath time is more than getting clean. It’s a chance to build routines, spark imagination, and create sweet memories. With these Dr. Molly-approved hacks, you’ll be making waves in no time!
